Film on Kandahar hijack

Mumbai: If the buzz is to be believed, Vishal Bhardwaj is ready to move away from Shakespearean adaptations. Now, it seems that the acclaimed filmmaker is contemplating a reel-life recreation of the infamous hijacking of an Air India flight by the Harkat-ul-Mujaihideen, a Pakistani-based group.
A source close to Bhardwaj said, "Vishal has been planning to make a film on this incident since a very long time and his script, which reads like a taut thriller, is ready. After wrapping up Haider, an Indianised version of Hamlet, he might start working on this film."
Apparently, Bhardwaj wants the film to be on the lines of the Hollywood thriller Argo directed by Ben Affleck. The Oscar-winning film revolved around a rescue operation of American forces held captive in Iraq.
Despite repeated attempts, Bhardwaj, who was shooting Haider in Kashmir could not be be reached for a comment. However, a friend of the director and one of his frequent collaborators confirmed the news saying, "Yes, the idea of making a film on the Khandahar hijack was developed into a script by him sometime ago. He may revive the project soon."
