Handler was only securing the bag: airline

Mumbai: A day after pictures surfaced online showing a baggage loader going through a passenger's luggage without his permission, the airline claimed on Monday that the worker was merely trying to secure the bag which was "already open".
Members of Bollywood composers Salim-Sulaiman's band, who had travelled from Goa on a Jet Airways flight on Saturday evening, clicked the pictures of the handler looking into their kit bag on the tarmac of Mumbai airport.
The images were taken from inside the aircraft when the band members were waiting to alight.
On Monday, Jet Airways informed musician Raj Pandit, who is part of the band, that the handler had found the kit bag open while unloading it from the plane. The unidentified employee was trying to ensure that its contents were intact in the presence of his duty manager.
The pictures, the airline claims, were taken when the employee was closing the bag. Jet defended the employee's actions even as the civil aviation regulator, the DGCA, and Bureau of Civil Aviation Security began an inquiry into the issue, sources said.
