Man held at airport for smuggling gold worth Rs 28 lakh

Ahmedabad: The customs department held a man for smuggling gold worth Rs 28 lakh at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport. Karunakara Janardan Salim was caught with 952g of gold. Karunakara had made the handle of his bag with gold.This is the second incident since Sunday. On Sunday, 32-year-old Mohammad Syed was caught with 700g of gold in his rectum.
The 47-year-old Karunakara, a resident of Mangalore arrived in Ahmedabad from Dubai by the Emirates flight at 4 am and while passing through the customs check the officials detained him on suspicion. Upon through check, it was found that the person was carrying 952.52 grams of gold. Karunakara, to escape customs scrutiny, had got the handle of his bag made of gold and had it plated with aluminium.
