Pune: The Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC) will now foray into providing package tourism by roping in private players and later, even governments of neighbouring states such as Madhya Pradesh. Some packages will be provided in the next 10 days, to begin with.
The MTDC has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with 14 companies, including hotels and tour companies, and Jet Airways will be roped in soon. A steering committee has also been formed with these stakeholders as members and tourism honchos as heads. This combined strength of stakeholders will promote Maharashtra tourism in international and domestic markets. The MTDC is looking at this public private partnership as a long-term measure for increasing footfall of international tourists in Maharashtra while creating a demand in the domestic market.
