New rapid exit taxiway rolls out at Chhatrapati Shivaji International airport

Mumbai: Passengers travelling from the Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport (CSIA) can now heave a sigh of relief as flight movements are expected to become quicker at the airport, especially during peak hours. The reason is the development of a Rapid Exit Taxiway (RET), which has been under construction since last November. It's now complete and was rolled out for operation from Wednesday.
"Efforts were made to keep the daily operations unaffected due to the construction work," said a spokesperson for the airport. Airport sources said the development work was being carried out from 9am to 5pm from Monday to Saturday.
Airport officials said the new RET is A380 compliant, which is expected to start operation from CSIA in the next few months as the ministry of civil aviation has lifted the ban it had imposed on the aircraft.
