Chennai: A year and a few days after the new airport terminals were inaugurated by the Vice President, around 10 granite tiles that were placed on the wall of a lift lobby outside the domestic terminal, came crashing down on Friday.
This compounds an extremely dour first-year progress report for the Airports Authority of India constructed airport, which has had glass panes shattering and false ceiling sections crashing down.
The lift lobby in question, is situated just outside Gate No 4 of the departure floor (the upper level of the airport is used for departures while arrivals are handled on the ground level), and is used to ferry passengers between levels.
The tiles, which resemble a large slab, were covering the rear of the lift apparatus - adjacent to the road where cars drop passengers off.
