Mumbai: Chief minister Prithivraj Chavan threw open the 2.2km Sahar Elevated Corridor to traffic on Wednesday.
The corridor will ensure that motorists reach the airport from the Western Express Highway (WEH) in less than five minutes against the usual 30 to 40 minutes.
After the inauguration, Chavan said, "We now plan to throw open Santa Cruz-Chembur Link Road and the Metro 1 Corridor in the next few weeks, subject to approval from the safety authority."
Chavan also said the state plans to perform the stone-laying ceremony (bhoomi pujan) for the 33km Colaba-Bandra-Seepz (Metro III) underground corridor. He, though, did not commit to a deadline for the ceremony.
The metro corridor is expected to reduce road congestion, besides taking the load off Western Railway's suburban corridor between Bandra and Churchgate.
