Six district airports will be expanded in Maharashtra

Mumbai : The Maharashtra government had allotted Rs 440 crore for the expansion of six airports at the district headquarters, which can allow night landing . “Kolhapur, Solapur, Amravati, Akola, Karhad and Jalgaon. Right now the expansion for Amravati and Karhad has begun. We are re-carpeting the runway strips, making it smooth and clean. We are ensuring that the six divisional airports are expanded to 2300 running metres so that they can have night landing,” P S Meena, additional chief secretary General Administration department.
Meanwhile, the projects that are already under way are at Akola airport, which has 1400 running metres and will be expanded to 1800 running metres. These projects of smoothening the airstrips is called re-carpeting which will cost Rs 5 crore.
Very soon some of these district airports will get terminals and have a tie-up with the airport authority.
