SpiceJet sparks off third fare war of the year, opens three day window to offer 75% off on base fare

New Delhi: Kalanithi Maran promoted low cost carrier SpiceJetBSE 0.74 % has yet again sparked off a fare war. For the third time this year and in quick succession, it has opened up a window for providing discounts on the base fare.
'As part of the Super Summer Sale launched on February 24, the airline is offering 75% discounts on base fare for tickets booked between April 1 to June 30. The bookings have to be made by February 26.
Previously in January, the airline had opened similar two such windows for bookings made up to April 1.
On all occasions in the past, its peers were forced to offer similar discounts to play catch-up. However, whether other airlines will follow the set pattern for the busy season remains to be seen.
The discounts are on the base fare and fuel surcharge as compared to a last-minute booking. For example, a Delhi-Goa fare that otherwise sells for Rs 11,148 all-in for last minute purchase, can be purchased for as little as Rs 3,737 all-in under this offer .
