Chennai: After several complaints to increase the time to enter and exit the city airport without paying a parking fee for vehicles, the Airports Authority of India has decided to extend free parking time to 10 minutes from April 1.
Earlier, motorists who failed to leave the airport within five minutes of entering were charged a parking fee of 70.
Airport authorities had been receiving several complaints from passengers and taxi drivers saying the time allowed for free entry and exit to the airport was less and congestion on the flyover in front of the airport's new terminal buildings were forcing people to pay parking charges because they could not drive out within five minutes.
The system was introduced as taxis took long to exit the airport after dropping passengers.
