Thiruvananthapuram: Customs officials at the international airport here called back a Sri Lankan Airways flight 20 minutes after it was airborne last Wednesday.
A tip-off on smugglers and contraband onboard flight UL162 that took off for Colombo had prompted the Customs action.
The pilot was asked to head back to Thiruvananthapuram. Customs officials boarded the aircraft and arrested three passengers and recovered 100 kg of red sanders from their baggage.
The contraband was covered in a black synthetic material which the X-ray scanner at the check-in baggage counter had failed to detect.
