Airports told to ensure private screening of people with disabilities

New Delhi: Following numerous instances of people with disabilities being harassed during security checks, the aviation ministry has issued fresh directives to airports.
The bureau for civil aviation security (BCAS) issued a new set of rules seeking 'dignified travel' for all: "All airport operators should make special arrangements to facilitate screening of persons with %special needs ... keeping the dignity and privacy of the passenger in mind... This will include provision of suitable enclosed space for private screening of passengers."
It added, "While thorough checking is essential ... courtesy and attention to privacy and dignity will be invariably observed. In the case of a passenger having difficulty in walking or standing, the way his or her screening is conducted will depend on his or her level of ability/disability."
