Boeing Co. will face some tough questions from Indian journalists, regulators and airline executives next week as it tries to promote its 787 Dreamliner at the south Asian nation’s largest aviation event.
India’s flagship carrier, Air India, was one of the first customers for the Dreamliner but has had a series of problems with it.
Last month an Air India Dreamliner flight to New Delhi from Melbourne was diverted to Kuala Lumpur because of software trouble. In November, the windshield of an Air India Dreamliner cracked as it landed at Melbourne. In October, an exterior panel from the fuselage of another Dreamliner fell off as it landed at Bangalore.
While some say a few incidents is nothing to be worried about — Air India operates 700 Dreamliner flights every month and none of the recent problems put passengers at risk — Boeing will need to use the aviation event in Hyderabad to counteract the recent bout of bad publicity.
