EC seeks Aviation Min's view on Swamy's plea against Air Asia

New Delhi: The Election Commission has sought the Civil Aviation Ministry's view on BJP leader Subramanian Swamy's demand that Air Asia should not be issued the air operator's permit till model code is in force.
The Commission has sent a letter to the Ministry on March 24, asking it to send its comments "immediately".
Swamy had said in his complaint to the Election Commission that he had written to the Civil Aviation Ministry on March 6, saying that it would be "wholly invalid and ultra vires the Model Code if Air Asia Joint Venture as well as the Tata-Singapore proposals for new airlines receive the Airline Operators Permit after March 5, 2014 10.30 AM".
"But this is precisely what the Minister of Civil Aviation is demanding of the DGCA and his officers," he had said.
Opposing the alleged move, Swamy had said, "No prejudice or harm would be caused if the air operating permit to Air Asia withheld until such time as the Model Code prevails.
