Mumbai: Using a unique modus operandi one person almost succeeded in allegedly smuggling in a 1 kg gold bar (valued at Rs30 lakh in the Indian market) and exited the international airport. The person, Abdul Rashid, has been arrested by the Remitting and Intelligence (R&I) division of the commissioner of customs preventive on Wednesday.
Rashid revealed his unique modus operandi to the officials. Rashid arrived at the Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport (CSIA) on March 1 by an Air Arabia flight from Sharjah. "After deplaning and collecting his luggage, Rashid, who was carrying the gold bar, took a trolley and went to the washroom. He strapped the gold bar with a tape beneath the trolley," said an official.
Rashid's luck ran out when the gold bar came off from the trolley and fell on the ground.
