Ndumbassery: The Air Intelligence Unit of the Air Customs at Cochin International Airport (CIAL) seized liquid gold from a passenger who arrived from Dubai on Thursday.
The passenger, identified as Faisal, 33, son of Abdulla, of Chemberi house, Panathur, Kasargod, arrived by Air India Express flight IX 434 from Dubai at 1.15 am Thursday.
Powdered gold had been dissolved into a highly corrosive fluid for the purpose of smuggling. The Customs officials have not yet been able to confirm how much gold had been dissolved. They said efforts were on to separate the gold from the liquid and verify the weight. But on an estimated evaluation it would come to around two kg, they said. The liquid that contained gold had been filled into eight male condoms which were again packed into four plastic containers.
