‘Missing’ passenger holds up flight, sends crew into a tizzy

Bangalore: The AI 518 that connects Goa-Pune-Hyderabad and Bangalore was about to take off from Pune airport at 3.20 pm. But even after the scheduled time, there were no signs of take-off.
Passengers said that a male passenger had boarded the flight from Goa with a ticket to Hyderabad. However, when the other passengers were getting off at Pune, he too alighted with his luggage. (Obviously, the ground crew at Pune did not follow the standard operating procedure of checking the boarding passes to ensure that those who are going to further destinations do not alight).
Flight staff realised this only during the count. A search was immediately launched, but the passenger was nowhere to be seen and, for a while, he couldn't be reached on his cell phone either. As a result, the flight to Hyderabad got delayed and took off only at 4.30 pm, resulting in a delayed arrival at Bangalore at 7.18 pm instead of the scheduled 6.10 pm.
