Members of Parliament from Mumbai cutting across party lines are pressuring Air India (AI) to reinstate 16 hostesses and a flight purser sacked for repeatedly reporting late or skipping duty, which delayed flights.
A top AI official told Mail Today that most of the employees, especially the high-flying air hostesses, are "very well-connected" and have been trying to pressure the management to revoke their termination.
"Most of those terminated are from Mumbai and that is why we have been bombarded with phone calls from MPs from Mumbai who have requested us to take back the termination orders," the official added.
Ironically, the official also said that termination of these hostesses doesn't mean that they would not be taken back. "If we find that there was a genuine case for not having reported to work or reporting late, they can always be considered to be taken back," the official added.
AI had issued show-cause notices to around 40 hostesses last September for reporting late or not reporting to work at all.
