No end to ‘security hassles’ at Srinagar Airport

Srinagar: A Spanish national whacked his backpack on the floor, seething in anger. “Check, check, check… Do you want to even check my underwear,” he shouted to a security guard at the Srinagar ‘International’ Airport. “Oh, I say, it is shame.”
Not once or twice, security guards checked the backpack of Anbessa Andrés for three times after he left for New Delhi. Anbessa had come from Spain to visit the world-famous tourist destination of Kashmir to spend some “good” time.
This is how it goes at Srinagar Airport day in and day out.
Among all the issues facing the Airport, security hassles are a major concern for flyers.
Anbessa told Greater Kashmir he felt humiliated at the Airport “with the kind of treatment I was given on my arrival and departure.”
“When I was about to land at the Airport a month ago, I saw mountains, snow and forests. I felt at peace,” he said. “Then I saw men in uniform ordering to do this and that every now and then as if I were some kind of a terrorist.”
He asked, “Do they do this to everyone here?”
Anbessa was on a month-long journey to Kashmir. He did skiing in Gulmarg and stayed in a house boat in Dal Lake.
According to travelers, authorities make them wait at the main gate at Humhama for hours together.
