Reginaldo vows to rally behind Dabolim airport, special status

Margao:  Indicating that he has accepted the challenge to contest the Lok Sabha seat to fight communalism raising its ugly head in the state, South Goa Congress candidate Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco vowed to strengthen Dabolim airport as Goa’s lone international airport and work towards getting special status for Goa.
“I had never staked my claim for the ticket. But, when the party nominated me for the seat, I accepted the challenge since dark clouds of communalism have been hovering over peaceful Goa in recent times. I am ready to quit and sit home if anyone proves that I had staked claim for the party president,” he said during an interaction with elected representatives of Zilla Panchayat, panchayat and municipal bodies at Hotel Nanutel here Thursday evening.
He promised to do justice to his job and beat the record of all previous MPs that have represented the people of South Goa, if elected. On the contentious airport issue, Reginaldo said he would work in the best interest of the people of Goa by strengthening Dabolim airport. “I will get my party to work in tandem with the aspirations of Goans,” he said.
On special status for Goa, Reginaldo said he would get the Congress to rally behind him to achieve the demand. “I do not want to promise you the sky, but we have to work to save our culture and the spirit of Goans,” he said.
