Review of security breach says CISF ignored alarms at IGI Airport

New Delhi: A week after a 16-year-old mentally-challenged teenager scaled the walls of Delhi's Indira Gandhi International (IGI) airport in a big security breach, an interim investigation review has found that the CISF declared false all the four alarms raised by the Perimeter intrusion detection system (PIDS).
The boy had scaled the airport perimeter wall and had started running on an active runway for about 30 minutes before he was spotted. According to the interim review, the PIDS system raised its first alarm as soon as the perimeter was breached.
On condition of anonymity, a senior official investigating the matter said, " Around 5: 10 am, when the boy scaled the wall, the PIDS raised the first alarm. Around 50 seconds after the 1st alarm, another alarm was raised. The system also clicked the 1st picture of the intruder after three minutes at around 5: 13 am. CISF officials ignored all these alarms." According to DIAL officials, just after three minutes of intrusion, the PIDS had captured the 1st picture of the intruder.
Log records also corroborate the findings that point towards the negligence of CISF officers on duty that night.
The Ministry of Civil Aviation and Ministry of Home affairs have asked for a report on the incident after the story was published in Mail Today.
