Mumbai: The Civil Aviation Ministry has given green signal to Singapore Airlines to fly its jumbo Airbus A 380 aircraft to India, a senior ministry official told FE on Wednesday.
“The air service agreement with Singapore was signed during the recently concluded Hyderabad aeroshow,” said the official.
The Airbus A 380, which is a double-deck, wide-body, four-engine jet airliner , is the the world's largest passenger airliner. The Airbus A380 was banned in India until January, 2014, when the civil aviation ministry lifted the ban on this aircraft.
However, Singapore Airlines will be allowed to fly the aircraft only to airports which are equipped to handle the plane.
According to the another official, currently airports at Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad and Bangalore, have the required infrastructure and are allowed to handle the aircraft.
“Singapore Airlines is keen to operate A380 services in India, and the inclusion of A380 into the India-Singapore bilateral agreement will allow us to do so,” said David Lau, General Manager (India), Singapore Airlines.
