SpiceJet defends mid-air Holi dance but suspends two pilots

New Delhi: Three days after Holi, some employees of the airline SpiceJet are facing the blues. While the DGCA has issued a show cause notice to the airline, SpiceJet says it is yet to receive the notice, but has given assurances that it will co-operate with the DGCA.
SpiceJet also said that it has taken the pilot and co-pilot of the Goa-Bangalore flight off the roster. The airline said the two pilots have been suspended as their coming out of the cockpit was not part of the plan.
SpiceJet in its statement defended the mid-air performance by its crew saying, "The activity, while maybe a first in India, is very similar to what is done by airlines to surprise passengers in the US, Europe, and elsewhere in Asia, by airlines such as Southwest in the US, Virgin in Europe, and Air Asia, videos of which are also freely viewable on YouTube."
The DGCA issued a show cause notice to the airline, asking why its licence should not be suspended, after a video of the cabin crew on a Goa-Bangalore flight dancing in the aisles went viral.
SpiceJet on March 17 ran eight special flights with extra cabin crew onboard to do a 2.5-minute jig on the occasion of Holi.
