Spicejet gets 10 days to pay Rs 120 cr to AAI

Mumbai: The Spicejet airline might soon have to operate on a flight-by-flight basis, paying Airports Authority of India (AAI) each time it lands in one of the statemaintained airports in the country.
The cash-strapped airline has till March 10 to pay nearly Rs 120 crore as outstanding bill, failing which the cash-and-carry policy will be implemented.
Spicejet has been facing troubles for quite some time now, with the airline declaring a Rs 500 crore loss in the past year and pilots quitting en masse.
An AAI source said, "Spicejet has a credit limit of Rs 60 crore and the current outstanding is double of that amount."
AAI chairman Alok Sinha confirmed the development. Member, Finance (AAI), Suresh, said, "The deadline to clear all dues is March 10. If the airline fails to do so, they will have to pay each time they land."
