AI improves operating performance

Mumbai: Provisional financial figures from Air India (AI) indicate that the airline has improved on most parameters in 2013-14, but its annual net loss could still be high.
The airline’s passenger revenue is estimated at Rs.14,300 crore in 2013-14, a growth of 14.5 per cent as compared to last year. While its operating revenue is expected to be higher by 19.6 per cent at Rs.19,200 crore, said a senior AI official. The audited results will be out after June. The airline has budgeted a net loss of Rs.3,900 crore for 2013-14, but the final figure could be higher.
In 2012-13, the airline had reported a net loss of Rs.5,100 crore, while in the previous year, it had reported a net loss of around Rs.7,100 crore.
“The net loss will be lower than last year. But, we are able to reduce the operating losses by 44 per cent to Rs.2,100 crore as compared to Rs.3,800 crore last year. Air India continues to be EBITDA (earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization) positive in 2013-14, and it is expected to show an improvement over last year,” the official said.
