Air India, AI Express shift 55% flights from Dubai to Sharjah

Air India and Air India Express will operate all scheduled flights during the 80-day period when Dubai International Airport runway will be partially closed for repair works, the two carriers announced on Tuesday.
Rambabu, UAE Country Manager for Air India and Air India Express, said during the partial runway shutdown from May 1  to July 20, some of the affected flights would be operated from Sharjah International Airport.
“We are retaining 45 per cent of the flights that are arriving and departing from Dubai International Airport despite the magnitude of disruptions and limited slots available during the runway closure period. By shifting 55 per cent of the flights to Sharjah airport, we want to ensure that no scheduled flights are cancelled during the period to minimise the inconvenience to travellers,” said Rambabu.
He said authorities at Sharjah International Airport have been kind to grant permission and facilitate the smooth shifting of both Air India and Air India Express flights from Dubai to Sharjah.
