SpiceJet set to offer consolidated fare

New Delhi: Low-cost airline SpiceJet is planning to remove the substantial component of fuel surcharge from its fare structure and offer a consolidated fare to passengers, aimed at making the fare less confusing. At present, flyers have to go through a number of separate heads and then look for a grand total to figure out the actual cost they have to cough up.
"SpiceJet is considering removing fuel surcharge component from pricing structure to make pricing more transparent to the customer," the airline's senior VP (network planning) Anurag Jain has told the directorate general of civil aviation (DGCA). Jain said this in reply to DGCA's show cause issued on Tuesday over the Re 1-ticket controversy.
The regulator has for years — unsuccessfully — been asking airlines to give a consolidated ticket price to flyers on their websites. Instead, all airlines continue to have a number of charges such as base fare, fuel surcharge, airport charges and taxes — all of which are shown separately and then added to give the grand total.
