Surat: A private carrier established air connectivity from Surat to Kolkata on Sunday, a long cherished dream of city-based businessmen. This private carrier had earlier connected Surat by air with Delhi, Mumbai and Bangalore.
Air connectivity to Kolkata will help Surat's textile business in many ways. Kolkata is a huge market for garments. Surat has a daily textile business turnover of Rs 800 crore and of this 15 per cent of transaction is with Kolkata. Many Bangladeshi traders and those from North East states buy textile items from Kolkata on a regular basis.
The Spicejet flight will enable people from Kolkata to travel to Surat via Mumbai in the morning and those wishing to go to Kolkata from Surat will have to go via Delhi by an evening flight.
