Technical study of Karipur airport runway begins

Kozhikode: The Central Road Research Institute (CRRI) has commenced the technical study to determine the quantum of strengthening required for repairing the runway of the Karipur airport, which an earlier CBI probe has found to have constructed with substandard material.
The Airport Authority of India (AAI) has awarded the consultancy contract to the CRRI to conduct the technical study, which would form the basis for recarpeting of the entire stretch of the runway proposed by the Union civil aviation ministry.
The CRRI will recommend the thickness of the re-carpeting that needs to be carried out at the runway and the material to be used in the tarmac strengthening.
It would also look at how to address the issue of development of cracks and peeling off of runway surface during monsoon.
