AI Express Dreams Yet to Sprout Wings

Kochi: The announcement by Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation K C Venugopal that the headquarters of Air India Express would be shifted to Kochi, still remains on paper, even over a year after it was made.
The minister had, in December 2012, announced that the headquarters of the airline would be shifted to Kochi by January 2013.
The much-awaited move seems to have hit a roadblock with the budget carrier failing to get its senior officials to relocate to the city. Of the 100 employees required at the proposed headquarters, only around 40 have been posted till March. It is learnt from reliable sources that top-level officials of the airline are not willing to relocate to Kochi.
Besides the lack of interest on the part of officials, the airline - which operates a majority of its services from Kerala - is still in search of a suitable office in the city.
Though the company started its search for office space soon after the announcement was made, the efforts are yet to bear fruit.
