Air India plane to fly in Maldives president

New Delhi: When heads of SAARC nations fly in to attend Narendra Modi's swearing-in ceremony on Monday, one of them will come here on a plane rented from India! Maldives has chartered an Air India aircraft for President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom to attend the grand swearing-in ceremony at President House.
AI often charters planes to Maldives whenever their top authorities have to fly out of the country on overseas visits as the island nation does not have big jets of its own.
"An Airbus A-320 with AI's flight crew and airhostesses will go from Delhi to Maldives' capital Male on Monday morning to fly the president here. The presidential delegation will return to Male on Tuesday and the plane will be back here same day. Catering has been done in accordance with protocol and as per the desire of the government of Maldives," said a source.
