An art attack against airport plan

Pathanamthitta: The ongoing protest at Aranmula against the proposed airport has turned colourful since Friday. A three-day painting camp, involving at least 40 artists, highlighting various faces of Aranmula and its heritage has begun at the strike venue.
The novel protest idea was mooted by Aranmula Samara Samithy, which has been staging a sit-in at Aranmula for the past 89 days, demanding scrapping of the project.
"Selfish souls who hurt the sentiments of Mother Nature can't survive. Hurting Mother Nature is like hurting the human body. The pain will be excruciating and the continuous assault on nature has reached a point that the Mother can't take it any longer," sculptor Kanayi Kunhiraman said on Friday, inaugurating the painters' camp.
The camp began with participants paying tributes to M V Devan. Kanayi handed over a canvas to artist Sajitha Sankar.
