Another Major Gold Haul at Kochi International Airport

Kochi: The Customs Department has confiscated 1092 grams of gold that was being smuggled in the form of nuggets from four passengers at the Kochi Airport.
The passengers, who arrived from Kuala Lumpur by a Malindo Air flight at 10.30 pm on May 27, had swallowed the nuggets which were in the shape of buttons, said officials of the Air Intelligence Unit.
Three of  the intercepted passengers hail from the Ramananathapuram district in Tamil Nadu, and the fourth passenger hails from the Sivagangai district.
The passengers, who were intercepted at the exit gate of the arrival hall, had not declared the possession of the gold. However, a personal search using a metal detector revealed the presence of gold in their stomachs.
On further questioning, the passengers admitted that together they had swallowed 43 gold nuggets, each weighing approximately 25 gm. Two of them had swallowed 10 gold nuggets each, one had swallowed 11 nuggets, and the fourth one had swallowed 12 nuggets.
