CM: Tender for Mopa airport in July

Panaji: A global tender for the construction of the new greenfield airport at Mopa will be floated by the end of July, chief minister Manohar Parrikar said on Friday. The airport will be constructed on a public private partnership (PPP) model.
The state has acquired 74 lakh sq metres of land for the airport in Pernem taluka. "The tender should come within 60 days from the date the Union government is sworn in," Parrikar told TOI. He said he is planning to target 6 million tourists by year 2016.
"If I am targeting 6 million tourists, the airport capacity requirement will be 8 million and Goa has already crossed 4 million in the current year," he said.
Parrikar said around 15,000 flights operates a year to and from Goa and the state requires another airport as the existing one is congested.
