New Delhi: Aviation regulator Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has asked the State Governments and helicopter operators to strictly comply with Civil Aviation Requirements (CARs) related to helipads.
DGCA joint director general, Lalit Gupta, said the need for frequently used helipads was felt during Uttarakhand disaster, which increased manifold due to seasonal religious pilgrimage.
Last year, the IAF and Army choppers had evacuated thousands of stranded pilgrims from various locations in flash flood-affected hill state of Uttarakhand. However, four incidents involving private and IAF choppers had triggered massive debate on poor maintenance of helipads.
All three types of helipads - surface, elevated, and heli-deck - used for regular and seasonal pilgrimage operations, shall be inspected and audited in accordance with its guidelines.
