Five flyers arrested for smuggling gold in Trichy

Trichy: Five people were caught by the security personnel at the Trichy international airport on Monday night on charges of smuggling gold. In all 720 grams of gold were seized from the passengers who tried to conceal them in their underarms. They had arrived here in an AirAsia flight from Kuala Lumpur.
The airport personnel screened the flyers on suspicion as they walked in an odd manner. A thorough check revealed the passengers were hiding gold bars.
Inquiries revealed that four passengers belonged to Chennai and the other from Mannargudi.
They intended to transport gold by road from Trichy to other places, police said, while adding that the entire gold was worth about Rs 23 lakh.
