Four gold smugglers arrested at airport

New Delhi: Four alleged gold smugglers, including a staff member of a private ground handling company and a foreign national, were arrested at the Indira Gandhi International Airport here on Tuesday, leading to the seizure of 1.2 kg of gold.
According to a Central Industrial Security Force statement, its surveillance staff noticed a loader of the Bird Worldwide Flight Services, Chandan Kumar, “roaming suspiciously at the international arrival pier of Terminal-3 in the early hours of the day. He was also seen interacting with a passenger who had arrived from Bahrain.
“They both walked into a bathroom and then went into another continuing their conversation. The CISF personnel followed the passenger up to the Customs area and requested the officials concerned for thorough checking of the passenger and his belongings. However, nothing was found initially,” said a senior CISF officer.
