Indigo flight aborts landing after Jet plane enters runway

Mumbai: A major tragedy was averted at Mumbai airport on Tuesday afternoon after a Jet Airways flight violated air traffic instructions forced a scheduled Indigo Airlines landing to go around. An inquiry has been ordered into the incident by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA).
In the incident reported at 2 pm, the Jet Airways plane was spotted by the incoming Indigo flight 6E 177, flying Delhi-Mumbai, when it was approaching for its scheduled landing.
"Air Traffic Control's (ATC) instructions were clear, and the landing was scheduled for the Indigo flight. The New Delhi-bound Jet Airways flight 9W 351, which was asked to hold on the taxiway, entered the runway at the same time. The decision of the Jet pilot to come on the runway is in violation of existing guidelines," ATC sources told Mirror.
Sources also confirmed that the Indigo aircraft had descended considerably before pulling up, adding that the matter has been reported to the DGCA.
