Man held with gold worth Rs 36 lakh at Ahmedabad airport

Ahmedabad:  The customs department on Thursday arrested a man with gold worth Rs 36 lakh at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport here. This is the first gold smuggling case in May and 27th incident since January 2014.
Kerala native Aliaskar Bendichal Motta was caught with 1,234 grams of gold concealed in the pocket of his trouser. As soon as Motta arrived from Doha in Qatar Airways flight QR-534, the officials detained him and took him to the red channel for detailed examination of his baggage.
"Motta had concealed three gold bars in his trousers, which were duly packed in two separate packets and wrapped with silver adhesive tape. One packet contained two gold bars weighing 233.36 grams and another had one gold bar weighing 1 kg," said an official.
