It was one of India's worst aviation disasters. But on its fourth anniversary, the 812 Foundation, established for Aviation Safety in India, says nothing much has changed on ground as far as air safety is concerned.
Though it has not received favourable response from authorities concerned with aviation safety, the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) has taken note Foundation's concerns.
President Yeshwant Shenoy said the head of the international cooperation department, EASA, has forwarded his report on Critical state of Aviation Safety in India'' to Aviation Safety Unit of European Commission.
Shenoy had sent the Indian Regulator's safety audit to EASA pointing out though the report identified and raised serious Aviation Safety concerns, the authority did not suspend or subject the carrier to any operational restrictions and therefore, the Carriers operate on a day to day basis in violation of several regulations and puts Aviation Safety in serious threat.
In a 30 page letter written to EASA, enclosing reports of discrepancy between the DGCA and ICAO records, Shenoy pointed out the DGCA has always fudged 'accident' and 'incident' reports and there cannot be anything more dangerous than the Regulator fudging its own records to show a 'better' record on papers.
