New Delhi: Tantrum-throwing air hostesses and a shortage of staff due to costcutting by airlines have emerged as a major factor for the delay in flights by domestic airlines such as Air India and Jet Airways.
According to a senior official of the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), over 20 per cent of the delays in departure from Delhi airport were due to glitches in crew operations.
"We have been watching that due to a shortage of staff airlines are forced to accept the tantrums of the cabin crew. In many instances flights have been delayed as pilots refused to do over- time. Several flights also get delayed due to a shortage of crew members.
Now, DGCA is planning to take steps regarding the issue," a senior official said.
According to recent figures released by Delhi International Airport Limited, Jet Airways and Air India head the list of highest numbers of delayed flights due to operational issues.
In April 2014, Air India delayed 60 flights due to various flight operation issues.
