Air India 'cover-up' over executive ticket freebies

Thee management of ailing national carrier Air India (AI) has brazenly gone out of its way to put up a defence for its chief vigilance officer (CVO) Sundari Subramaniam Pujari, who has been availed of free executive class tickets for her son and daughter-in-law for the Delhi-Sydney-Delhi flight as reported by Mail Today on May 29.
Sundari Subramanian Pujari, a 1980 batch Indian Defence Estate Service (IDES) officer on deputation to AI, is the wife of IAS officer Anoop Pujari, who is the secretary to the Central government, ministry of mines.
CVO Pujari has availed of executive class tickets, upgradable to first class, for her son Adit Subramaniam Pujari and daughter-in-law Kriti Awasthi free of cost.
The tickets would have cost her over Rs 5 lakh in the open market. Strangely, after the Mail Today exposé, the carrier issued a press statement saying: "It is further clarified that government officials on deputation to Air India, except the CVO, are not entitled for any such passages."

However, the Department of Public Enterprises (DPE) does not make any exception for CVOs.
The Civil Aviation Ministry had issued an order on June 25, 2010, making it clear in the case of CVO Hemant Rao in 2010 he was not entitled to free tickets as he was an IAS officer on deputation to the airline.
