Airlines float premium economy class to attract passengers

As the price war continues in the domestic sector with the entry of a new low-cost airline AirAsia India, the International airlines are also looking to improve their market share by introducing a new category of seats, namely premium economy. While British Airways, Cathay Pacific and Emirates in certain flights have already launched premium economy class, Lufthansa and SpiceJet are planning to introduce this particular segment between economy and business class soon.
“We are constantly innovating and improving our services to add to our customers delight. We will introduce premium economy seats for passengers in this winter schedule,” Lufthansa’s South Asia director Wolfgang Will told Deccan Chronicle. In the domestic front, SpiceJet’s chief operating officer Sanjiv Kapoor said that his airline would soon launch SpiceMAX, a premium economy seating, where the first five rows would have better spacing and legroom than normal economy seats on budget airlines.
