Chaos at Patna airport as 2 airlines offload passengers

Patna: The Jayaprakash Narayan International Airport here witnessed ruckus on Sunday as several passengers of different flights of IndiGo and Go Air airlines were not allowed to board their flights without any prior intimation. They were anguished due to authorities' decision to offload them as many of them had to travel to their destinations on urgent work or to catch connecting flights.

The airlines' move followed the receipt of aviation regulator Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) notice here on Saturday night asking the airlines not to operate flights with full load in view of the short runway of Patna airport, according to airport sources. However, station managers of the aforesaid two airliners deputed at the Patna airport could not be reached for their comments despite repeated attempts.

A fuming Nandita Mehta, employee of a private bank in Ahmedabad, said she had done web check-in for her Ahmedabad-bound morning flight of Go Air (G8 542/537) last night. If at all they (airline officials) had received some notice from the DGCA last night, they should not have allowed web check-in, which would have at least saved her from coming to Patna early morning from Begusarai.
