Chhattisgarh may Use Copters for Anti-Naxal Ops

New Delhi: The Centre may soon add air mobility to its firepower in fighting against Maoists under integrated efforts to tackle Left-wing extremism in affected states.
The decision was taken during a high-level meeting chaired by Minister for Home Affairs Rajnath Singh on Monday.
It was attended by  Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh, intelligence and security agencies’ officials, DoT and planning commission representatives.
MHA officials later said the Chief Minister demanded air mobility for forces, only to be used for mobilisation of troops in the affected areas and it will not be used in anti-Naxal operations.
“So far choppers are being used for causality evacuation, but there is a demand from the states that air mobility should be used for operations as well, but only to carry the troops at a certain location where operation is going on or is being planned. It will facilitate the quick movement of troops. All the demands will be examined as government is committed to tackle all internal security challenges,” the officials said.
The Centre is focussing on strengthening the existing technical and human intelligence and need more boots on the ground to fill the security gaps.
