Govt moots local train to KIA with Railways

Bangalore: After considering high speed rail link and Metro connectivity, now the state government wants suburban rail connectivity to Kempegowda International Airport (KIA). Govern8ment officials are holding talks with the railways to utilise the current Bangalore-Chikballapur railway line (that chugs along under the trumpet interchange — the labyrinth of flyovers after Yelahanka which takes one to and fro airport) so that commuters can board a train to reach the airport. Confirming this,

Vandita Sharma, principal secretary, Infrastructure Department, said: "The train service to the airport will be a big boon to airport users. We have written to the Railways for the same.

Though the discussion is at an initial stage, it looks positive. Meanwhile, we are also in constant touch with the airport authorities and the departments concerned to take the project forward." Even South-Western Railways Divisional Manager Anil Kumar Agarwal confirmed the development and said talks are going on to check its feasibility.
