Govt Will Study Viability of Intl Airport for Vizag: Ashok

Visakhapatnam: Development of infrastructure is most important. However, it should not go waste or lie idle, said Union minister for civil aviation P Ashok Gajapathi Raju. Giving an example of the international airfield, Puttaparthy, Ashok said that the airfield was not being used presently. The airfield had been constructed to accommodate all flights, however, it was not being used, he added.

Ashok told newsmen Sunday after laying a foundation stone for the renovation of drinking water project in the town that the Government would weigh viability to construct a new international airport in  Visakhapatnam.

“Already international flights have been operating from the existing Visakhapatnam airport which is being controlled by the Defence ministry. The defence and civil considerations are  different. There are certain restrictions to the defence sector. The government would study the restrictions for the further  development of the airport. Of course, there is a good potential and demand for an international airport in Andhra Pradesh,”  Ashok said.
