Jammu Airport expansion project hits roadblock

Jammu: The prestigious expansion project of Jammu Airport is proving to be an uphill task for government as several impediments are likely to create hurdle in the execution of the work.
Officials said that rehabilitation of 61 families, who will be affected in land acquisition process and providing alternate place for the Sheep Husbandry Farm are some of the major issues confronting the authorities.
The Indian Ministry of Defence (DOM) had in November 2013 given approval to the Jammu and Kashmir Government for the expansion of Jammu Airport.
The project includes increasing the airport’s passenger capacity from 200 to 700, expanding its landing surface, building hangers, and modernising and expanding the airport building and its premises.
The project is expected to attract more tourists to Jammu Kashmir and also boost the state’s economy.
For the expansion project, the army will be shifting its base from Satwari, next to the airport, to Sunjwan, to the east of the city.
