Only 2 villages now oppose Navi Mumbai airport package

The Navi Mumbai International Airport project is all set to take off with the number of villages opposing the rehabilitation package offered by the state coming down two, Cidco officials claimed. The two villages are Pargaon and Owala.

Earlier, of the 10 villages whose land was to be acquired, 6 had opposed the package announced last November.

Cidco managing director Sanjay Bhatia confirmed that of the six, four were now willing to accept the govt offer.

Officials also exuded confidence about bringing these two on board. "We do not want to impose anything on anyone. The best we can do is to explain how good the package is."

Meanwhile, in a related development, farmers from these two villages have pinned hopes on the Narendra Modi govt to meet their demands. "We have never been against the airport project. However, we oppose the rehabilitation package. We want the state to compensate us as per our demands," said Mahendra Patil, who leads Navi Mumbai Antarrashtriya Prakalpagrast Sangharsh Samiti.
