Pune Airport finally has a medical room to tackle travelers who may require intervention in case of emergencies. The medical room was launched by Aditya Birla Memorial Hospital (ABMH) in association with the Airport Authority of India on Friday. The step was taken following the death of a 29-year-old book vendor at the airport last month, which raised a lot of hue and cry with allegations of negligence levied by his relatives, due to the lack of medical facilities at the airport.
Subsequent to this incident, an ambulance was also provided to the airport by the Dagdusheth Halwai Temple to handle emergency cases. The newly-opened facility will provide free medical facility to travelers and will have a trained doctor and nurse from ABMH in attendance round the clock. They will cater to the basic healthcare needs by giving first-aid.
Patients will be stabilised at the airport's medical room and later, shifted to ABMH or other hospitals located nearby, if their condition demands further intervention. "Beside providing free medical aid to all passengers and the airport staff, ABMH will also conduct regular awareness sessions at the airport for the benefit of travelers.
